Body Poetry is a learning journey inviting you into the wisdom of your own body through movement, writing and meditation.
In movement, we will experiment with different ways of connecting with the knowing of belly, bone, and heart. We will then flesh out this body-knowing by allowing words and writing to emerge from the body, through the arm and onto the page.
The stories that emerge, of body and word, can support us in acknowledging and giving space to the parts of ourselves that can live on the edges of our being. As we work to bring our emotion, shadow, desire and animalness into full expression, we can experience release and integration. We will also practice body-dreaming, experimenting with how we might respond to life with a sense of imagination, playfulness, and choice. We will notice where our thresholds lie, and consider how we might move through discomfort towards freedom.
Invitations to play and connect with each other through our words and movement will create safe opportunities to witness and be witnessed in our own unique Body Poetry. We will also see how information can be shared through our collective body intelligence.
This practice is a useful tool in supporting our self-expression, whether that might be in the context of writing, moving or simply living. It can refresh our creative process, and also support us in bridging connection of body-mind.
Let’s come together to release and dream, to learn and unlearn, to break and expand, and to honor the body-knowing that is a part of us all.
About the Facilitator:
Sophie Marsh is an artist and facilitator who guides writing and movement ceremonies and workshops for adults in a range of outdoor, indoor and community group settings. She creates spaces where people can experience the depth and truth of their own body wisdom, where they can express freely, and where they can play and connect as feeling, animal bodies.
