Rage Club: Making Friends with Anger

Sometimes society acts as if anger is always dangerous and to be avoided at all costs. But when we decide to avoid an emotion or bottle it up it can creep out in unhelpful ways - bursting out unexpectedly or turning in on ourselves. This seems like bad news for society and bad news for us as individuals.

But what if our anger is a natural human response to life happening? What if we could engage with anger as part of healthy human life, with something to teach us about who we are? What if we could make friends with this powerful emotion?

RAGE CLUB is an opportunity to experiment with a kinder relationship to our anger. It's a taboo-breaking, non-violent, non-therapeutic, non-judgemental space to explore rage - to express our anger and witness the anger of others. It's a supportive space to bring your rage - and leave with a deeper sense of your own aliveness, power and connection to others.

What to expect

The format flows to support the building of trust together and always with the encouragement to work within your own comfort. We play with different practices to embody, enjoy and express rage. The mix is always a little different but you can expect sharing, drawing, moving, stamping, and using your voice. There is no physical contact with others but you will be making noise and expressing emotions.

SELF-CARE LABEL: Rage Club is a game we play together, it's not therapy. The space will be supportive but our advice is to only come if you feel well equipped to deal with strong feelings and loud noises.

Rich Watkins is focused on exploring human relationships, group dynamics and our inner lives. He does this in retreats, workshops and with organisations - Rage Club is pretty new (2019) but he has been facilitating groups for 20 years.

"I’m surprised to find I’m feeling angry but having fun. It’s the strangest thing I’ve done for a while...Everyone has something positive to say. For some it’s the first time they have felt safe to express anger; others say it has shifted feelings of resentment." The Guardian

"The session completely reframed my very one-dimensional relationship with rage. We agreed that addressing our rage head-on without shame was both cathartic and empowering" Refinery 29
